Rev. Shaun Lotter MA, LPC

In 1999, just before going off to college at Evangel University, I felt God’s calling on my life to pursue a career helping people via counseling. Unsure of what this would entail, I did know my first step was to get an education and earned a Bachelors Degree in Psychology and then a Masters Degree in Counseling. While in school, I began mentoring at-risk youth via the local juvenile services office and secured my first job working in residential care with children and adolescents.

In 2006, I was licensed as a Professional Counselor, and I practiced as part of a large community mental health group providing care to children, adolescents, and their families in residential care settings. In 2008, I married Kendra, and we set up a life together. The next big step came in 2009, when I left the security of a job and went into private practice. This proved to be one of the most challenging and rewarding decisions of my life. Kendra and I had no guarantees this would work, but stepped out believing it was what God was calling me to do.

Over the next 14 years, God took us on a journey that grew us both personally and me professionally. We had four children, grieved the loss of one, bought our first small home and outgrew it, purchased our family home, started running a home-school cooperative, and learned how to persevere. Professionally, people ask me how I ended up making marital issues, infidelity, sexual addictions, and trauma my areas of focus. I always answer that I didn’t choose, I was simply surrounded by the needs of couples trying to have successful marriages, issues of infidelity, sexual addictions, and trauma. So, I have spent my time, resources and energy training to become as competent as I can in helping with these issues. This includes trainings and certifications in:

  • Christian Sex Therapy

  • Sexual Addictions

  • Trauma

  • Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT)

  • Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)

In addition to clinical training, I also pursued my ministerial credentials, believing all my professional training needed to be understood in light of my faith. To this day, I continue to read, train, and grow, as I believe God’s call to excellence requires me to always be learning. Additionally, my wife and I have and do take part in our own marriage and individual counseling, as we believe in the benefits of continuing to grow as people and in our own relationship.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me, my family, and our journey.

Grace & Peace
